Used Car Blues
Jan 30, 2010 Uncategorized
So I bought myself a used car and for a moment or two I was happy. I knew it needed work, I was just happy it ran. Not wanting to take the chance on it conking out on me, I took it in to the dealer just to find out what it needed done to it. The list was staggering but not nearly as much as the cost. If I get everything done to the car that needs doing then I will have easily paid much more than the car is worth, and maybe three times what I paid for it. Do get it fixed? Do I pass my problem on to someone else? My current thought is to fix a little bit each month as money becomes available, kind of like a car payment. It is running at the moment though no one seems to know for how long but it’s still better than taking the bus.
At least they gave me a cool loaner to drive while it’s getting worked on. It’s the loaner that’s in the picture. My car doesn’t look nearly as good.

As a kid I started out with Lincoln Logs, moved on to Lego Blocks, then to an Erector Set, then back to Legos. They were more fun.
Lost It All

It never happens when you’re prepared. Like any car wreck that you can walk away from, you pout, fume, and go through the gamut of negative emotions, none of which change anything. It’s done. You shore yourself up for the fallout; the cost, time, and effort necessary to get things back to a semblance of normalcy. You try to show strength and push forward, all the while knowing it will never be the same. Your friends tell you that it will be all over soon and one day you’ll have a great story to tell but that just makes you angry because neither their words nor the truth of them make anything better in this moment. You withdraw a bit but you work through it.
My entire blog is gone. Every thought, word, image and video that I’ve collected over the past few years are gone and it’s all my fault. I didn’t plan ahead. I didn’t back up my site. I thought of doing it sooner or later but never got around to it so it never got done. The truth is I thought my hosting company would do it automatically but I found out the hard way that this was not the case. At least they’ve given me someone to be mad at other than myself. I guess I’ll just add it to the list of things I’ve lost like my job, my savings, and a large portion of my pride.
